Springtime Tips for a Healthy Summer
Are you excited that spring is finally here? I sure am. With plenty of sunshine and warm temperatures, April is a good time to be thinking about increasing your activity level. After a long winter, it is time to get outside and find new ways to be more active. Take the thought of exercise out of your head and focus on being active outside instead. Mowing the lawn, pulling weeds, raking leaves, or gardening can burn 200-400 calories per hour according to Joshua Margolis, a personal trainer and founder of Mind Over Matter Fitness in NYC. “Gardening is great, too, because you’re constantly getting up and down, stretching, bending, and reaching to pull the weeds.” Not a fan of yard work? Walking the dog, playing outside with your family, or taking a simple stroll to admire those fresh sprouting flowers all add up. I would love to hear how you are finding new ways of getting outside and being more active this spring. Don’t forget to stop and smell the flowers.
