INDIANAPOLIS (March 2, 2017) – Freedom Healthworks, a business partner for direct pay care physicians, announced plans today to expand its operations in Indianapolis. To support its growth, the company plans to create up to 20 new jobs through the end of next year and anticipates adding a total of 64 new high-wage jobs by the end of 2022.”Hoosiers are innovators, launching businesses in all corners of Indiana that are developing new solutions for today’s challenges,” said Indiana Secretary of Commerce Jim Schellinger. “Freedom Healthworks is one of those companies, finding success with the support of a strong entrepreneurial culture and a business climate that keeps taxes, expenses and regulations low while providing boundless talent and opportunity.”The homegrown Hoosier company, which started serving physicians in 2016, works with doctors to implement a cash-medicine business model, providing a full-service platform that helps drive patient enrollment in the physician’s practice while managing business services. With its platform, Freedom Healthworks allows physicians to provide a clear pricing structure to their patients without the involvement of third-party health insurance payers. Freedom Healthworks, which currently serves client practices with 1,200 total patients, expects to add additional client practices early this year and projects to serve 12 practices and 6,000 patients by the end of 2017.To accommodate its growth, Freedom Healthworks plans to relocate from its 700-square-foot office at 8580 Cedar Place Drive on Indianapolis’ north side to an office downtown. The company’s move, which is planned for this spring, will triple its office space and provide breakout spaces for its growing team.

“Indiana has always been home and we are excited to plant our company’s roots here,” said Christopher Habig, co-founder of Freedom Healthworks. “Indiana has worked hard to eliminate the regulations and red tape associated with starting a business, and we are thrilled to launch a company in the favorable growth environment.”

Freedom Healthworks currently employs six associates, and plans to begin hiring for administrative, communications, marketing and account management positions in late March, with a preference on candidates who thrive in a flexible, fast-paced environment. These positions are expected to pay an average wage 40 percent higher than the state’s average wage. Interested applicants may apply online at www.freedomhealthworks.com/careers.

“Our home state is full of wonderful people who emphasize loyalty and hard work,” said Habig. “We hope to become another Hoosier trailblazing company that has a disruptive vision to solve real-world problems with practical solutions. We are excited and privileged to call this state home and look forward to growing Freedom Healthworks in Indiana. Doctors are the real change agents and by empowering them to act, we can help all people receive better care and physicians can enjoy practicing again.”

As a direct pay care platform, Freedom Healthworks supports new independent practice creation with a minimal cost of entry to physicians interested in accepting patients without billing health insurance. The company works with physicians to create their own dream practice, centered on patients paying a monthly fee for the physician’s care. On average, patients pay $50-100/month directly to their personal physician while receiving a significantly enriched doctor-patient relationship.

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) offered Freedom Healthworks LLC up to $650,000 in conditional tax credits and $50,000 in training grants based on the company’s job creation plans. These incentives are performance based, meaning until Hoosiers are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. The city of Indianapolis supports the project in partnership with Develop Indy, a business unit of the Indy Chamber.

“Access to healthcare is vitally important to a growing community,” said Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett. “Freedom Healthworks is helping residents find clarity in healthcare costs through its innovative platform for physicians. This is just another example of businesses in Indianapolis leading the way in solving real-world challenges.”

Freedom Healthworks’ news is part of continued growth within Indiana’s ecosystem of high-growth startups. According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, 72,508 startups launched in Indiana between 2011 and 2015, creating hundreds of thousands of new Hoosier jobs.
